Eldon Community Centre offers a warm space on Wednesday mornings every week from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Tea and coffee is available at very reasonable prices, and, if you give sufficient notice, lunches may also be purchased.
Elections for Town and Parish Councils were held in May 2017. Eldon has five Parish Councillors all of whom submitted nomination forms to stand again for office. As there were no other nominations the existing Councillors have been re-elected for a period of four years.
Death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – 1926 to 2022
Statement by Councillor John Gibson, Chairman of Eldon Parish Council:
We were greatly saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8th September 2022. Queen Elizabeth was a much loved and respected Monarch who was an intrinsic part of our lives and will be sadly missed. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go to the King and all members of the Royal Family.

Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – Tea Party for Eldon Residents and Children’s Competition
Eldon Parish Council is holding a free Tea Party for Eldon Parish Council residents on Sunday 5th June 2022 between 1.30 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. in Eldon Community Centre. It is a ticket only event. You can obtain tickets from Councillor Diane Pennington at the Community Centre: telephone – 01388 775955; or ring Diane on 01388 773309 or 07707633735. Tickets will be limited, so please apply early.
There will also be competition for local children aged up to 12 years of age attending the event for the best drawing or painting of Her Majesty The Queen. Entries must be handed in at the event no later than 2.30 p.m. on the day and must bear the name, age and address of the child on the reverse. There will be prizes for the best three entries. From 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. there will also be a children’s disco.
Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
At the beginning of June, over an extended Bank Holiday weekend, celebrations will be held to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Parish Council is currently considering how to mark the event, but in the meantime, we have been asked by the Lord Lieutenant for County Durham, Mrs. Sue Snowdon (The Queen’s representative in our area), to provide a link to the following subtitled video message about the celebrations:

Storm Arwen – Re-arranged Parish Council Meeting on 7th December
Unfortunately, due to a power outage at Eldon Community Centre in the aftermath of Storm Arwen, the Eldon Parish Council Meeting on 30th November was unable to be held. An extraordinary meeting of the Council will now be held at the Community Centre on 7th December at 7 p.m.
Audited Accounts and Annual Return 2020-21
Eldon Parish Council has now posted details of the audited accounts and annual return for 2020 to 2021 on its Council documents and Financial Information section of the website. The notice sets out the arrangements for public inspection of the accounts and underlying documents which runs from 24th June until 4th August 2021.
Annual Electors Meeting and Annual Parish Council Meeting 24th May 2021
The first face to face meeting of Eldon Parish Council since COVID-19 restrictions have been eased will take place at 7.00 p.m. on Monday 24th May 2021 at Eldon Community Centre. There will be some limited public access but the meeting will be held with strict safety protocols in place to meet ongoing coronavirus requirements following a risk assessment. We hope that the meeting can be accessed online using Zoom from the Community Centre, subject to internet availability at the Centre. You are advised to look at the agenda and documents for the meeting on our website and to download them electronically and print them for your personal use if you wish to have papers at the meeting.
The Annual Parish Council meeting will be preceded at 6.45 p.m. by the Annual Meeting for the Electors of the Parish. The same requirements as above will apply. The Agenda for the meeting can be found using the following link:

His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
It is with deep sadness and regret that I announce, on behalf of Eldon Parish Council, the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, aged 99 years.
The Parish Council would like to send their sincere condolences to the Queen and the Royal Family on this deeply sad occasion.
